چکیده

We investigate some modifications to the Press & Schechter (1974) (PS) prescription resulting from shear and tidal effects. These modifications rely on more realistic treatments of the collapse process than the standard approach based on the spherical model. First, we show that the mass function resulting from a new approximate Lagrangian dynamic (Audit & Alimi 1996), contains more objects at high mass, than the classical PS mass function and is well fitted by a PS-like function with a threshold density of δc ' 1.4. However, such a Lagrangian description can underestimate the epoch of structure formation since it defines it as the collapse of the first principal axis. We therefore suggest some analytical prescriptions, for computing the collapse time along the second and third principal axes, and we deduce the corresponding mass functions. The collapse along the third axis is delayed by the shear and the number of objects of high mass then decreases. Finally, we show that the shear also strongly affects the formation of low-mass halos. This dynamical effect implies a modification of the low-mass slope of the mass function and allows the reproduction of the observed luminosity function of field galaxies. In a companion paper, we present results of numerical simulations which complete this work.

Cosmic Walls and Filaments Formation in Modied Chaplygin Gas Cosmology

We want to study the perturbation growth of an initial seed of an ellipsoidal shape in Top-Hat collapse model of the structure formation in the Modied Chaplygin gas cosmology. Considering reasonable values of the constants and the parameters of the model under study, we can show that a very small deviation from spherical symmetry (ellipsoidal geometry) in the initial seed leads to a nal highly ...

A Lagrangian Dynamical Theory for the Mass Function of Cosmic Structures: II Statistics

The statistical tools needed to obtain a mass function from realistic collapse time estimates are presented. Collapse dynamics has been dealt with in paper I by means of the powerful Lagrangian perturbation theory and the simple ellipsoidal collapse. The basic quantity considered here is the inverse collapse time F ; it is a non-linear functional of the initial potential, with a non-Gaussian di...

CMB Anisotropies at Second-Order II: Analytical Approach

We provide an analytical approach to the second–order Cosmic Microwave Background (CMB) anisotropies generated by the non–linear dynamics taking place at last scattering. We study the acoustic oscillations of the photon–baryon fluid in the tight coupling limit and we extend at second– order the Meszaros effect. We allow for a generic set of initial conditions due to primordial nonGaussianity an...

A Lagrangian Dynamical Theory for the Mass Function of Cosmic Structures: I Dynamics

A new theory for determining the mass function of cosmic structures is presented. It relies on a realistic treatment of collapse dynamics. Gravitational collapse is analyzed in the Lagrangian perturbative framework. Lagrangian perturbations provide an approximation of truncated type, i.e. small-scale structure is filtered out. The collapse time is suitably defined as the instant at which orbit ...

Mass Participation Factor in Defining Non-classical Range of Behavior for Mass Isolated Systems

The new techniques in seismic design of structures are usually attributed to high damping ratios. In such systems, the assumption of classical (i.e. proportional) damping is not valid and in most cases they should be considered as Non-classical systems. Since the analytical tools for studying the behavior of such structures are not easily available, the present work attempts to find the limits,...
